Merry Christmas everyone!!!
I will also take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year as I will be off on retreat from the 29th of December, and officially off grid until the second week of January.
I thought I would pull one card for us all to bear in mind as we leave 2017 behind.
(6 of cups, Vice Versa Tarot by Massimiliano Filadoro)
This card comes from my brand new deck, the Vice Versa Tarot , by Massimiliano Filadoro.
This is a double-sided deck based on the Rider Waite Smith Tarot.
Each card depicts two scenes, a front and a back or rather a ‘this’ and a ‘that’.
For today and the year ahead, I pulled the 6 of cups, and it was the back of the card that presented itself.
The 6 of cups is traditionally a card of nostalgia. It can denote sweetness and soulmates, a childish and uncomplicated kind of love at its most simple.
The scene on the reverse of this deck’s 6 of cups, is rather different from most decks that picture children.
It shows a grown man in the dark, looking out with a scowl.
It stills speaks to me of memories, but perhaps of the need to leave them in the past.
The man may be remembering something clearly for the first time in a long time, and understanding that it was not all it was cracked up to be.
Perhaps he is bitter because he has grown older, and good times are just a memory.
This is a very reflective card (and indeed deck) to use at this time of the year when so many of us are looking backwards, and forwards at the same time.
Christmas can bring up memories for all of us, including childhood memories.
Including memories that are good, and memories that are bad.
It can also bring up the need to review just how well or not well the past year has gone.
The 6 of cups in this position, in this deck – is asking us to look over the year, and our lives to date with realistic eyes – then turn around and head into the future.
The past is exactly as it should have been in order to bring us to where we are now.
The 6s in tarot denote beauty, balance and harmony, further confirmation that things were just right in the past, even if they were turbulent.
The only thing in focus in the card, is the man outside of his house, right here and right now.
Though this is a time of year to look back and to look forward, we must not forget the need to experience what we are feeling in the present.
I get the feeling a lot of good things are in the works for you my readers, a lot of things we may have felt that we would never truly get to have.
It’s natural to look to the past at these moments, as we ascertain whether the future is really something attainable.
How about we focus on the here and now this Christmas period, and celebrate what we have around us now?
This is a time for gratitude, not regret.
Christmas can be a hard time of year, but this card is asking us to keep ourselves out of the regretful energy that may pop up.
It is asking us to step into 2018 unencumbered.
Though we may look back from time to time, this does not have to stop us living in the present.
If we live in the now, our futures can be created from a grounded, and grateful place.

What a beautiful card to bring us into the New Year – a gentle reminder that it is indeed a new year that we are stepping into, one that can be completely different from all the other years, if we truly want it to be.
Much love always, and see you after retreat!
